Each member of this leadership team represents a critical pillar of the work that advances a Strong Rhode Island.

As Chief Policy and Impact Officer, Kyle Bennett provides leadership across policy, community impact, nonprofit engagement, and strategic partnerships. His role is to bring together people, organizations, ideas, and resources in pursuit of a common vision: a Rhode Island where every individual and family has the opportunity to thrive. Throughout his career, Kyle has focused on building bridges between sectors, fostering collaboration, and elevating the voices of communities that are too often unheard. Whether through public policy, philanthropy, civic leadership, or community engagement, his work has centered on creating pathways to opportunity and prosperity.

Roshni Darnal

Director of Community Investment

Roshni Darnal oversees strategic investments that strengthen nonprofit organizations and community-based solutions across Rhode Island. Through grantmaking, partnership development, and community engagement, she ensures that resources are directed to organizations that are closest to the challenges and opportunities facing residents. Roshni's work is rooted in trust, equity, and community empowerment. She believes that sustainable change happens when communities themselves are equipped with the resources and support needed to lead.

Courtney Smith

Senior Director of Innovation and Community Outreach 

Courtney Smith leads efforts that connect individuals and families to critical resources and opportunities. Through 211 mobile RV, the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC), community outreach, emergency assistance programs, and innovative service delivery models, she ensures that Rhode Islanders can access help when they need it most. Courtney serves as the bridge between community needs and community solutions. Her leadership ensures that families facing hardship are not left behind and that the voices of residents inform the work of United Way and its partners.

Ellijah McLean

Manager of Government Relations and Policy

Ellijah McLean leads United Way's legislative advocacy, civic engagement, and public policy efforts. His work focuses on advancing policies that expand opportunity, improve equity, and address systemic barriers affecting Rhode Islanders. Ellijah understands that meaningful change requires more than direct service alone. By helping residents engage in civic life and by advocating for policies that improve outcomes for families and communities, he works to create lasting change at the systems level.

Nancy Wolanski

Director of the Alliance for Nonprofit Impact

Nancy Wolanski leads efforts to strengthen Rhode Island's nonprofit sector. Through leadership development, advocacy, research, technical assistance, and capacity building, she helps nonprofit organizations become more effective, sustainable, and impactful.

Nancy understands that strong communities require strong institutions. Her work helps nonprofit leaders navigate challenges, build organizational capacity, and maximize their ability to serve residents across the state.
