Sara Monteiro is an entrepreneur, artist, storyteller, and community leader committed to using education, creativity, and community partnerships to create opportunities for underrepresented communities. She currently serves as the Acting Director of Rhode Island Black Storytellers (RIBS), supporting the organization’s mission to preserve and amplify Black history, culture, and storytelling.

A University of Rhode Island alumna with a background in African American Studies and Human Development. She posse

As a first-generation Cape Verdean American and resident artist at CIC, Sara uses art and storytelling to explore culture, identity, and history. She is the proud founder of Distant.Relatives LLC and OUTSPOKEN, a storytelling and poetry platform that creates space for authentic expression and connection.

Across her work, Sara’s goal remains rooted in one purpose: preserving culture and history through community while creating spaces where people feel seen, represented, and empowered to tell their own stories.
